Facebook New News Feed Revealed
“Goodbye Clutter” : New Facebook News Feed
Facebook’s Mark uckerburg announced yesterday the re-designed News Feed. This is Facebook’s first major overhaul since the launch of Facebook Timeline in September 2011.
During the press event, Mark uckerburg said “The news feed is one of the most important things we’ve built,” while likening news feed to “the most personali ed newspaper,” he later added that “the stories around you deserve to be displayed with more than just text.”
The new news feed features three major components:
- Bigger Images: The website moves from three-columns to two-columns allowing the main news feed take up more space. This means all posts, whether your own updates or adverts, take up a larger proportion of the page with more prominence given to images and video rather than text describing a link.
- Multiple Feeds: A pop-out black bar is added to the left-hand side of the page. This contains app bookmarks, links to specific friends, the chat and calendar tools, and the live updates ticker.
- Mobile Consistency: Users can choose alternative feeds, including ones that show all updates posted by friends; a page featuring only posted photos; one dedicated to organisations and people the user “follows”; and a music-themed feed containing updates from artists the user likes, concert announcements and details of songs their friends are listening to through services including Spotify and Rdio (from the BBC).
Facebook’s new News Feed comes just after Google announces changes and updates to their social network, Google+, which you can find more about here
